In Sept, a friend invited us on his boat for a fishing trip to the San Juan Islands. We left from Whidbey Island, went under the Deception Pass bridge, and then up to San Juan Island. By the bridge we saw a group of seals resting on the rocks.
We fished off Eagle point. Fishing was done via trolling. You use a device called a downrigger to force your lure to some depth (for the Coho salmon we were fishing about 40 - 70 ft deep). Then you just cruise around until a salmon takes your lure. As you can see there are lots of other boats doing the same thing. When you see a bunch of birds on the water, that often means bait fish are there which attract salmon so all the boats will circle around or through these bird groups.
We stayed at Friday Harbor marina. The big yacht on the right side is the Invictus super yacht. The marina also had other animals fishing - a great blue heron. It was very pretty in the dawn when we left for our second day of fishing.
