Tokyo Lost and Found

Well I got to experience the incredible efficiency of the Shinkansen Lost and Found system. Yesterday on the way back from our Kumano Kodo trip we left our staffs in the top rack of the Shinkansen train by accident.

The staffs were not visible when I stood up to leave and I was tired after a long day. I checked online and the JR website said that the train we were on ended at Tokyo Station and that they cleaned the train before it left again - anything they found would be at the Tokyo Station lost and found.

So today, I went down to Tokyo station.  I had to ask a few ticket people to find the correct Lost and Found office (they have several for the different trains), but once I found it and told the lady the car number, when and where the train left from, ,and what I was missing; voila a few minutes later she comes out with the staffs.

What amazes me is that for the train cleaner to find the staffs, they had to be up on a stool to clean the upper rack all the way down the long Shinkansen car just to see the staffs.  Folks here really take their job, no matter what it is, seriously.
