Wet day again. We started walking the road as it climbed up into the mountains. Along the way we passed several small clusters of homes.
Where the road had several switchbacks we took a trail shortcut.
Just before a tunnel we met a guy using a motorcycle to do the pilgrimage. We hiked over Nosonoto pass to get to Kumakogen where the temple is located.
On the way down we met this very active 80 year young lady who was excited to see people from the US.
In town we stopped by Kikugiro, a combo coffee shop, gallery, sports bar. They had ESPN on TV showing the NBA playoffs. The owners were extremely nice. Highly recommended.
They had some black garlic that you eat raw. It was sweet, creamy, and very good.
Temple 44, Daihōji is up in a hill above Kumakogen. We spent the night there.
I walked 20.9km and climbed 684m today. You can see a map of my tracks here (you may have to refresh the page after a minute to get it to show). If you have Google Earth, it is faster to download a Google Earth file of my adventure from here.
