Today after a wonderful breakfast we took the Wallowa Tramway to the top of Mt Howard and then kayaked on Wallowa lake.
Mt Howard is right above Sawako's head in the picture. At the top (around 8150') there are a few miles of well documented trails and then a more adventurous trail to the south towards Aneroid Mountain. The tramway gains 3700' of altitude - much easier than hiking up.
First we hiked to the valley side where they have a great launching place for hang gliders and parasails. Several chipmunks patrolled the launching point.

Then we looped around and hiked a bit of the trail towards Aneroid Mountain crossing a few patches of snow along the way.

Back on the main trail system we hiked to the summit viewpoint passing by a great place to hold weddings.

There were millions of wildflowers all over the Mt Howard.
We finished up with a surprisingly good lunch at the Tramway Grill restaurant and then headed back down to the lake. Chipmunks and squirrels patrolled the restaurant area.
At the lake we did a 2 hour loop around the southern end of it (closest point above) past the small marina, state park, and campground.
