Today was a lot of driving through pretty landscapes and a hike up to Mt John next to Takapo lake. The lake was incredible as it had lupines along its shores and views of the mountains.
But first we had to drive across the alluvial plain and cross several rivers to get there. Many of the bridges across the rivers are one lane.
We drove over Burkes Pass to get to the high plateau where lake Tekapo is located. The terrain changed from farms on the plain with irrigation to tussock plains with no irrigation.
The hike to the top of Mt John was steep and the top was very windy, but the views were worth it.

After the hike we all stood in cold lake Tekapo for a bit (cold water therapy - right).
Then we drove to Aoraki/Mt Cook along lake Pukaki. Aoraki/Mt Cook is at the end of the lake hidden in the clouds.
