| Snow Monkey Onsen |
During development of the area in the 1950's as an Ski and Onsen resort area, the monkeys were driven from their habitat and became pests at the outdoor onsens. The park was founded in 1964 and built an onsen just for the monkeys. You take a bus to a stop where a short walk takes you to the park entrance.

The trail winds through the forest to Jigokudani Onsen just down stream from the park.

| Snow monkey and sign |
Following the sign around it, you come to the park where the monkeys are enjoying the onsen and ignoring the people.
The pipes that bring hot water down stream to other onsens are great for crossing the river and for playing on.
Still some monkeys insist on using the human onsens.
