We left at 10am today as it was a short day and Sawako wanted to try Dogo Onsen in the morning. First we walked across the city to Temple 52, Taisanji in the rain. This temple is a National Treasure for how the main hall is built.
Next we walked over a small hill with mikan orchards to Temple 53, Enmyōji.
The top of the hall has some wonderful carvings.
Finally a short walk to Horie train station where our Ryokan picked us up.
Shikoku is very interesting as it's a car culture, not a transit based culture like other parts of Japan I have visited. For example, see how small the train station is even though it's in the middle of the suburbs. In Chiba, outside of Tokyo, a station in the suburbs would be large, with permanent staff, and lots of shops around it. Unfortunately, the car culture also causes a lot more trash along the roads.
At the Ryokan, we relaxed in the Onsen and had a wonderful dinner in our room which is the traditional way to serve food.
I walked 18.5m today. You can see a map of my tracks here (you may have to refresh the page after a minute to get it to show). If you have Google Earth, it is faster to download a Google Earth file of my adventure from here.
