Day 30: Temples 41, 42, 43

A quiet, wet day visiting three more temples. We started by walking up a river valley then crossing a ridge into flat farm land. Temple 41, Ryūkōji is at the base of the hills you see. As usual, there are lots of stairs.

On the way to Temple 42, Butsumokuji, we met a local who said the Hanaga-Toge pass trail was open again after a landslide. This temple had a statue of a young Kobo Daishi.

We decided to take the pass trail instead of the 8km longer road route. As you can see, their fix for the landslide was a ladder 😳.

The trail also had a very steep part where you needed to pull yourself up by a chain. The view from the top was great though.

After coming down from the pass, we met a 72 year young lady also doing the pilgrimage at a henro resting hut. Then we went to the last temple of the day, Temple 43, Meisekiji.

I walked 23.2 km today. You can see my Gaia GPS tracks at Gaia GPS.
