Day 27: Temple 40

Rainy day today - sometimes heavy and sometimes light rain, but rain all day. We decided to walk along the road instead of the steep mountain trails because of the rain and recent earthquake in the area.

We finally left the Kochi prefecture and am now in Ehime prefecture. Zoom in to see the sign behind us.

Along the way we saw this goat and a ohenro-san camping in a henro hut.

Even though it rained, we walked over beautiful old bridges and saw poppy fields in front of citrus orchards.

We met this man whose grandmother walked Henro 4 times wearing sandals like he has on. He now maintains this part of the route. He gave us these apple treats that are very good.

We ended the day in Ainen town. This is the hospital.

Temple 40, Kanjizaiji, is a quiet temple on the edge of town.  The little guy on the bottom is Tanuki.

I walked 23.1 km today. You can see a map of my tracks here (you may have to refresh the page after a minute to get it to show).  If you have Google Earth, it is faster to download a Google Earth file of my adventure from here.
