Day 15: Temples 29 - 30 and dentist

Had a nice breakfast and Sawako went right on the henro trail while I went left to the train station. Lots of young kids with yellow hats and packs walking the opposite direction to school and older kids in uniforms biking to school in the same direction.

The crossing guards for the young kids held out their flags for me also.  Only issue this morning is I cannot chew on the left side of my mouth. Also almost left my staff at the train station. I have rigged up a way to tie it to my front pack strap to avoid leaving it. More rice fields from the train.

Got to the Gomen station and the wind ripped my hat from my head. I repaired it during the hour wait for the bus and tied the hat to the back of my pack as the wind will destroy it. The wind gusts were so strong they almost blew me over.

Took the bus to Temple 29, Tosa Kokubunji and met Ian.

He is an English teacher in Japan who likes to do pilgrimages. We took the bus back to the train station for a short trip and then a 20min walk to Temple 30, Zenrakuji where I met Sawako.

She then walked to the hotel in Kochi while I walked back to the train and took it to the hotel.

We had okonomiyaki for lunch and then I went to a dentist as my tooth is really hurting.

He ended up doing a root canal on the tooth. This is before the root canal and after he took off the crown. Looks pretty bad, no wonder it hurt.

He dug out the root, put in stuff to kill anything left, and then a temporary concrete like patch on top. Feels soooo much better. I will see him tomorrow morning to decide what next as I still need a cap on it. I am very thankful for Sawako translating and for him to find time to work on my tooth. BTW, it cost $66 for 2 hours at the dentist and a root canal.

We are dinner at a wonderful food court with lots of local fish, that they barely sear on the outside. We ordered sours to drink, which after one sip I realized was a bad idea. The patch on my tooth became all smooth as the acid in the drink ate into it. Sawako got 2 drinks tonight 😄.

You can see a map of my tracks here (you may have to refresh the page after a minute to get it to show).  If you have Google Earth, it is faster to download a Google Earth file of my adventure from here.
